		<description>Ireland never had six years of mandated data retention. Phone companies were *illegally* retaining data which should only have been held for 6 *months* under EU data protection legislation at that time. I discovered this, wrote about it, and the data protection commissioner then demanded they comply and also noted gardai had no legal right to data in absence of any legislation or access framework.</description>

		<description>Strange, Dermot Ahern was on RTÉ Radio 1 and said that under the terms of the Bill, it will not be allowed to reveal what websites you visit. I don&#039;t think that&#039;s correct.</description>

It was published last week (on the public website - I read it at the weekend) and also introduced in the Dáil earlier in the week so I don&#039;t know what Conor Lally in the Irish Times is writing about this morning.</description>
